From Moonboy to Taking Profits

Coco is a scalper with no 100x stories — just a workflow: his GMGN tracker-sound setup and the mid-six-figure lesson about pricing trades in SOL vs USDC.

🎙️ GMGN User Stories · Episode 05 · A series where we listen to the people on the other side of the screen talk about how they actually trade.

Episode 05 features Coco — a scalper who started in 2024. No legendary 100x stories, no zeroed-out wake-up nights. Just a workflow he’s quietly sharpened over time. In a space dominated by PnL screenshots, the trader who shows up and grinds is the rarest one to hear from.

“I learned to take profits. The trade-off is fewer huge wins — but also fewer roundtrips.”

About me

I’m Coco. Started trading on-chain in 2024.

Me and GMGN

About 9 months on GMGN so far.

I use the Trenches tab a lot, paired with the Instant Trade feature — that combo is basically on all day.

The Wallet Tracker and Social Tracker are always running too. I like to rename certain Twitter accounts so I can recognize them later for context — really helpful for tracking smart wallets and KOLs over time.

A few small details I appreciate: custom colors and notification sounds for tracker pings. They sound minor, but during long sessions, how clearly your signals are layered directly decides how fast you can react.

When I’m half-AFK, I’ll switch to the Trending tab. Really useful for spotting movers at a glance.

What I’d complain about

My main complaints are bug-related — most of them I’ve already flagged in the chat.

The biggest one is lag during high volume. Fills could also be improved.

I wish USDC trading had all the same features as native-currency trading, and that it was available on all chains, on both web and mobile.

Also, paying-DEX on GMGN would be a nice feature direction.

The trade I remember most

I mainly try to be consistent with scalping, so I don’t really have huge wins or huge losses. Compared to a lot of other traders, I don’t really have many notable trades to point to.

The traders I look up to are the ones who find good coins early and hold all the way until most of the mindshare has been captured. That’s still something I’m trying to get better at.

Sorry to be uninteresting here lol.

My biggest change

My biggest change since starting is: I started taking profits.

When I got introduced to memecoins, I’d instantly become a moonboy every time I got into something early before it went parabolic (aped → believed → didn’t sell).

It was hard to know when to sell, so I’d often roundtrip most of my bag.

These days I TP earlier. The downside is fewer significant wins — but the upside is fewer roundtrips too.

It’s a trade-off. But for a scalper, fewer moonshots < fewer zeros.

My personal playbook

The scanning rhythm I’ve quietly worked out is built around stacking three tracker sources into one signal funnel:

  1. Cockpit: Trenches + Instant Trade. Open Trenches, set up Instant Trade, and that’s your driver’s seat for the day. Every action happens here. Don’t tab around.

  2. Wallet Tracker + Social Tracker + custom notification sounds. The trick isn’t how many wallets you track — it’s assigning a different sound to each tier of signal.

    • One sound for your high-quality smart-money wallets
    • A different sound for your catalyst-type Twitter accounts

Your ears become your second monitor. You won’t miss plays even half-AFK.

  3. Rename important Twitter accounts. A lot of people skip this. Take those garbled “@xxx_yyyy” handles and rename them into something you can recognize in a glance (“Early sniper A”, “On-chain detective B”). When the ping fires, you don’t need to look up who that account is — you can decide whether to follow instantly.

  4. AFK fallback: Trending. When you actually step away from the screen, the first thing to do when you come back is hit Trending. Catch up on every mover that ran during your window — don’t chase. Just update your map.

  5. The most expensive lesson: what you price in. This one I almost forgot to mention — my single biggest loss to date is in the mid-six figures, and it didn’t come from any individual meme coin — it came from holding SOL as my base currency. If I had switched to trading in USDC back when SOL price was up, my port today would be significantly bigger.

So my rule now is simple:

    • When SOL is bottomed → trade in SOL (you’re earning coins and SOL beta)
    • When SOL is up → switch to USDC (lock in the beta, only chase alpha)

Trade with USDC — available on GMGN.

The biggest hidden loss in meme trading isn’t the trade you got wrong — it’s the currency you priced it in. Most people only watch how much the token moved. They never count how much their SOL dropped underneath.

— This setup won’t catch you a 100x. But it’ll keep you at the table, every day.

Editor’s note

Five episodes into GMGN User Stories, we’ve heard about a $600K loss, a night that wiped out on-chain, and a seven-figure livestream — Coco is the first guest in the series to open with “I don’t really have stories to tell.”

Honestly, this one was the hardest to write — and the kind we wish we had more of.

CT’s content ecosystem is overfed on dramatic narratives. Big wins and big blowups will always outperform “I closed a few small greens today.” But the traders who actually survive in this market spend most of their time doing exactly what Coco described: tuning notification sounds, renaming wallets, building a workflow — and then executing it, day after day.

If you feel like you “don’t have a big trade worth sharing” recently — that might not be bad news. That might just mean you’re becoming an actual trader.

See you next episode.
